The Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicaid and State Operations announced October 16, 2008 that the Family PACT program has been extended until October 31, 2008. This means that students enrolled in this program can continue to receive family planning services under this program. Student Health and Counseling Services wants students to know that we are not cutting the program; this isn't in our power to do so. Any future change to this program will be system wide and affect all Family PACT providers.

We do not know what the future of the program is, and are trying to obtain the latest information to ensure that students have the latest information. We urge students that currently have a Health Access Plan card (teal colored card) to keep their card. The clinic will continue to provide these services until a final determination is made on the Federal level regarding the program.

If you are interested in the Family PACT program, we are still currently enrolling students who are eligible and they are still able to receive family planning services until a final determination is made regarding the program.

We will regularly post updates to our web site with any new information: http://www.csusm.edu/shcs, or our blog, http://csusmhealth.wordpress.com. If you have questions, please call the clinic to speak with Lisa Skola, Family PACT coordinator, at 760/750-4968.

You can help the efforts to maintain this program by contacting Nancy Pelosi, Congresswoman from California's 8th District (San Francisco area) and urging her to save Family PACT. Her phone number in Washington D.C. is 202/225-4965. You can also email her at: AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov.

Thank you for supporting Family PACT.
