Want the sophistication of Thai cuisine but prefer a casual atmosphere and less strain on your wallet? The new Siam Surprise restaurant in Temecula is truly the crème de la crème, diamond in the rough, golden ticket for any Thai food connoisseur or culturally curious beginner. Along with its low prices, the restaurant, open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight and with dine in, to go, and delivery services, could very well receive the stamp of approval for accommodating the needs of a college student.
The best way to get the most out of this Thai restaurant with a home-like feel is to share plates with whomever you bring along with you. Inducting your palate to a variety of Thai flavors and consistencies is all part of the experience.
Popular dishes include Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and Duck Curry.
Highly recommended as an appetizer are Siam's $3.25 fried egg rolls-they offer fresh egg rolls as well, but I am not that experimental. Siam's are the best egg rolls you'll ever have, hands down, and their sweet and sour sauce is in a league all its own.
After scarfing down the three egg rolls as an appetizer, order the Pad-See-ew, a dish of "broad rice noodles pan fried with garlic, Chinese broccoli, egg and meat, flavored with sweet soy sauce." If you choose tofu, pork, chicken, or beef, the plate is $7.50, with shrimp or duck valued at $8.50 and mixed seafood at $9.50. Anyone already proficient in the indulgence of Pad-See-ew will be greatly impressed with Siam's edition and those new to trying the dish completely are in for a pleasant surprise.
Another dish of choice, located in the 'Stir Fried' section of the menu, is the mixed vegetables plate with shrimp valued at $9.50. The plate is "a fresh and crispy combination of vegetable: broccoli, celery, snow peas, carrots, onion, green onion, bok choy, napa cabbage and bean sprouts." Its sweet, unique sauce separates the Thai specialty from any other similar options. The plate also includes your choice of side order; steamed rice, fried rice, rice noodles, rice vermicelli, egg noodles, glass noodles, flour tortillas, and "Roti" Thai crepes.
