After a disappointing loss to Football Championship Subdivision Cal Poly last weekend, this Saturday's matchup against Notre Dame can't come soon enough for San Diego State.

The team was obviously hurt by the emotional defeat, but head coach Chuck Long believes his team won't have any trouble shaking it off for the nationally televised showdown with the Irish.

As if losing to Cal Poly for the second time in three years wasn't bad enough, the San Diego State football team also lost several key players because of injuries in Saturday night's game. Former tight end and starting defensive end Tony DeMartinis will likely miss all of the 2008 season with a torn ACL and MCL. He suffered the injury just a few minutes after recording a sack on the first play of the night.

A group of 30 athletes gather on the field, each is presented with a precious package.

Inside is a number, 15, which carries a weight one hundred times greater than the paper on which it is written.

The Dons enter this season attempting to win the Orange Empire Conference for a 15th consecutive time, and it is up to the few veterans to explain the significance of the task at hand.

Three of the most poised members of the San Diego State football team looked devastated.

Their eyes, puffy and red, told the entire story.

As much as head coach Chuck Long, senior linebacker Russell Allen and redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Lindley tried to say the right things, the pain was obvious.

This loss hurt.
